ARTIFICIAL CERVICAL DISC REPLACEMENT
The Artificial Disc Replacement (ADR), is designed to duplicate the function level of a normal, healthy disc and retain motion in the spine.
In the correct patient, the ADR presents a motion preserving alternative to the previous “gold standard” of fusion.
Fusion surgery causes two vertebrae to become locked in place creating 1 bone:
- places additional stress on discs above and below the fusion site
- can lead to further disc degeneration at the level above and level below
Some experts estimate that over the next 10 years, more than half of the patients who would otherwise receive a fusion will receive an artificial disc replacement instead.
